Program Team

Center for Agribusiness and Rural Development (CARD) Foundation was established in 2005 and is the successor of USDA MAP project. Tight cooperation with USDA and vast expertise transferred by US experts has accumulated a notable know-how in house and laid a firm foundation for quality provision and successful project implementation. In fact, having high success rate in project implementation CARD Foundation has diversified its donor portfolio and cooperated with more than 10 international donor organizations including European Union (EU), United Nations Development Program (UNDP), Swiss Development Cooperation (SDC), Austrian Development Agency (ADA), Food and Agriculture Organizations (FAO), United States Agency for International Development (USAID), World Bank (WB), World Wide Foundation (WWF), GiZ, etc. Projects implemented by CARD Foundation are specialized in horticulture production (open field and green production), animal health management, food processing including dried fruit production, winemaking, development of agricultural mechanization services, herb production and overall introduction to innovative agricultural production practices.

Heifer International Georgia

Heifer International Georgia is a branch office of Heifer Project International – a non-profit organization, based in the USA, Little Rock, Arkansas, working more than in 128 countries throughout the world. Heifer Project International is dedicated to end world hunger and save the earth by providing livestock, trees, training and other resources to help poor families around the globe become self-reliant. Heifer program in the South Caucasus started in November 1999. The projects were implemented under the supervision of Heifer South Caucasus Regional Office located in Yerevan, Armenia.  In 2007 Heifer’s Headquarters made the decision to establish a separate country program in Georgia and Heifer-Georgia was legally registered in September 2007.

As a fully-fledged country program, Heifer Georgia has developed during its short lifespan a diversified project portfolio, created some valuable partnerships (GRM International, HEKS EPER, World Vision, Embassy of Japan, Government of Poland) and been able to successfully access funds from local sources. As of June 15, 2011 Heifer Georgia has 19 active projects, totaling for 2,650,000 USD, which had collectively assisted more than 100 beneficiaries. Most of the projects are in the areas of animal husbandry.

At present Heifer Georgia is implementing 15 animal husbandry related projects. Within the scope of these projects, 30 project leaders and project veterinarians received trainings in animal health issues and artificial insemination. In addition, up to 1000 project participants received regular trainings in animal health issues.

Heifer Georgia‘s director, George Murvanidze, is a member of  National Animal Health Program Steering Committee and plays active role in  National Animal Heath strategy development.
