From April 3 to April 6, within the framework of “Animal Health Management in Cross Border Areas of Armenia and Georgia” project financed by the Austrian Development Cooperation (ADC), training on the “Genetic Improvement and Artificial Insemination” was held for 30 veterinarians from Shirak and Lori regions including 2 women vets.
The introduction of the new methods and technologies of genetic improvement and AI was the main objective of the training. The topics covered during the training were the Anatomy and physiology of cow reproductive organs; bull selection for taking sperm for AI; heat detection; semen handling; AI Technique in Cattle; Estrus Cycle Synchronization.
Most of the participants were state veterinarians, but they also provide private veterinary services. They were quite interested in the AI techniques and genetic improvement technologies to later apply those practices in their own cattle farms.
Overall, the filled-in questionnaires and the participants’ opinions prove that conducted trainings were very useful and effective. The training materials were quite appropriate and easy applicable. Moreover, the participants expressed their gratitude and asked for some other topics to be taught in the near future tailored to their needs. They were eager for more practical trainings and workshops.
